The State of Ohio Workforce Planning Initiative
In Spring 2009 the Governor signed an agreement allowing the
Pew Center on the States to assist the Department of Administrative Services’ (DAS), Human Resources Division in developing a statewide workforce planning policy and tools to better strategically align our people. The project goal is to enhance the Human Resource role as a strategic business partner across state government so the workforce is managed most effectively.

In Spring 2011, Director Balir re-issued Directive HR-D-15 for workforce planning.

The DAS Human Resources Division (HRD) is focusing its efforts on three main services that it will provide to agencies:

1.      Policy direction;

2.      Workforce planning guide with tools, templates and standard reporting guidelines to facilitate WFP implementation; and

3.      Consultative services from roll-out and implementation to reporting and taking action.

DAS-HRD WfP consultative services:
  • Speak to leadership teams about the implications and benefits of workforce planning.
  • Offer training or an overview of the workforce planning process.
  • Guide decision makers through the process of evaluating their specific workforce situations.
  • Organize a consortium of human resources professionals to increase collaboration and cooperation.

Please check back for updates, to participate in on-line polling and for project progress.
